Prickly pear seed oil is a recent discovery in natural and organic cosmetics. It is extremely valuable due to the huge amount of prickly pears needed to produce very small amounts of oil. This oil is highly coveted for its benefits to the skin and for its wonderful healing properties.
Originating in southwestern Morocco, extracting the prickly pear fruit is a long and laborious process that can take between three and four days. Each seed contains about 5% oil, which is about 1000 kg of fruit to extract 25 kg to produce one liter of oil. They are picked by hand and then loaded into the factory. They are then washed, peeled and placed in a machine where the seeds are separated, cold pressed and the oil is filtered and extracted to ensure it remains pure.
